From the minute the doors of the first Mungo & Jemima boutique offering flung open in 2008, Cape Town’s epicenter Long Street has been privy to a beautiful home and foundation for budding designers. The brainchild of Coppelia, Kirsty Bannerman and Marian Park-Ross of Good have now embarked on their latest journey; offering up yet another tasty contemporary style feast to suit the more discerning shopper. The new residency situated in Claremont affords the shopper an opus of comfort and allure whilst browsing through folds of fabric, handpicked by the creators of M & J.
Their ever-fashion forward clientele align synergistically with the forward thinking, trend magnifying labels that M&J so effortlessly carry; I love Leroy, Take Care, Michelle Ludek, Selfi, Margot Molyneux, Unknown, Spilt Milk, Love Water Love, Dear Dorothy and Silver Spoon all contribute to the overall store aesthetic. To compliment the wardrobe, the customer is presented with a bevy of accessorizing treats; on trend handbags from Missibaba and FSP, delicate handpicked jewelry from Skermunkil, Fathom, Shelly & Harry, Trinket, Oh Dear Megan, and Goodie Two Shoes to satisfy the shoe fundi’s!
By placing consumers in direct contact with great designer collections in a unique and relaxed environment, one can easily find the perfect fit that spotlights their individual style. Appealing to shoppers of all ages who seek clothing that has its own voice; M&J put quality and exclusivity at the heart of the brand.
Kirsty Bannerman
After
completing her diploma in Fashion Design and Technology at the Cape Technikon
in 1996, Kirsty Bannerman cut her teeth designing for a large South African fashion
chain store. Following a couple of years traveling in London and India she
returned to SA in 1999 and launched her own womenswear label, Coppelia. In
January 2003 Kirsty opened her first boutique, Mememe with partner Doreen
Southwood. In March 2007, two years after leaving Mememe, Kirsty opened Mungo & Jemima
with partner Marian Park-Ross of Good. Kirsty
is well regarded within the fashion industry – in 1997 she won second place in
the Fairlady Young Designer Award; was nominated in Marie Claire’s Top Ten Emerging
Designers 2007 and since 2001 has regularly shown at SA Fashion Week. She is passionate about creating timeless garments that are not
dictated by fleeting fashion trends and always aim to make the wearer feel
special.
Marian Park-Ross
Marian
Park-Ross’s journey in fashion has been circular: from an early age she coveted
her grandmother’s shoe collection, as a young adult she would knit and sell
jerseys to her friends at university and now, as a fully fledged businesswoman,
she is the co-owner of Mungo & Jemima and the owner of successful womenswear
range Good. Although
she has always displayed an innate sense of fashion entrepreneurship, and
completed a diploma in Clothing Management at Cape Technikon in 1998, she was not
originally inclined to enter into a fashion business, instead following a
career in the stills production industry. She has also traveled extensively in
Europe and India. In 2007, following the success of the initial styles for her own
label, Good, she ventured full-time into fashion. The Good brand grows
exponentially year on year and is stocked in boutiques across South Africa.
