How To: Animal Print

Wild animal prints are a stylish perennial in designer fashion.
You'll find it everywhere in all sorts of accessories and separates, so that if you wanted you could dress top to toe in leopard and scare more than the wild animals! However wild you are about this current trend, we urge you to resist the temptation of going over the top with it.

Here are a few of my do's and don'ts of how to wear your leopard print with style.

DO choose just one power piece from your wardrobe and build your outfit from there. It might be a silk shirt in leopard, a statement handbag or a scarf. Once you've chosen that piece, select others that complement it rather than vie for attention with it.

DON'T mix other animal print pieces. Leopard and python, or leopard and zebra will just make you look like you're heading out on safari.... as one of the four legged attractions! Even mixing two different leopard pieces is probably too much in one outfit.

DO keep it simple. There is a lot going on in a leopard print, so the rest of your outfit should be in simple neutrals that pick out the leopard colours and work as a frame or background to the main print.

DO have fun with all the new accessories and animal prints out there this season. Just because I suggest you limit yourself to one leopard print at a time, doesn't mean that you can't have a different piece for each day of the week. Think leopard silk blouse over plain jeans one day, leopard jeans with a simple white tee another, that stunning leopard scarf the next day and so on.

If you haven't yet invested in a leopard print item, then you've got almost too much to choose from.

Think about starting with a simple accessory such as a beautiful leopard print scarf, which will update a classic wardrobe with the latest trend very easily, then once you've fallen in love with this versatile and flattering animal print, you can go all out for the latest in leopard print designer jeans and silk shirts.

Voila: Miss SA, Melinda Bam

~

The 14th issue of the South African free magazine, Voila, was published 3 weeks ago. And on the cover is the current Miss South Africa, the very beautiful Melinda Bam

I very seldom feature local mag spreads and stories. But this one I love. For me, it is the perfect combination of twisted freaky fashion and classic beauty. I love the concept. And I had to find out some more about it!

The photographer,Steve Marais, is who came up with the concept together with stylist Jessica Lupton, for Gaschette.

~

Media asked Steve what it was like to work with Melinda - and whether she got all diva on him. But apparently she was perfectly behaved. So much so that Steve was all gushy about how her presence filled the room the minute she walked into it. And apparently he is a cynical bastard usually.

As I have already picked up from Melinda's current reign, she has a very clear idea of what it means to be Miss SA, and how to fulfill this role. Strength of character and a great eye for fashion seem to be hallmarks of her time in the sash already.

Apparently all these guys (who provided the golden hands) were put into very awkward positions to get the shots just right. With much stretching and twisting of bodies - and all the associated cramping - they got the shots they had plotted out very carefully ahead of the shoot.

I'v heard in media press releases that Melinda took the whole thing incredibly well - like a trooper - even when she had a myriad of strange painted hands all over her. And if that isn't a mark of a real Beauty Queen - smile and wave through the pain - I don't know what is...

PORSCHE DESIGN

Porsche Design is a luxury brand with particular focus on technically inspired PRODUCTS. The brand was founded in 1972 by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche,
and since then its products have stood for functional, timeless and purist design.

The PRODUCT portfolio includes classic men’s accessories, a sport and fashion collection as well as electronic products and a men’s fragrance range.
The products are designed in the Porsche Design Studio in Zell am See, Austria, and sold worldwide in the brand’s own stores, shop-in-shops, high quality department stores and exclusive retail outlets, like for instance the Porsche Design shop in Hyde Park Corner, Johannesburg that I've visited on Thursday night!

The venerable Swiss watch making house of Eterna is the license for the production and sale of Porsche Design watches.

Porsche Design has very little to do with Porsche the CAR.
"Fifteen percent of their customers are Porsche DRIVERS," Michael Griffin says. - Who is the CEO at the Porsche Design Retail stores in South Africa. Making it clear again that Porsche Design is not about “pushing car merchandise”.

The first iconic Porsche Design product – the world’s first black watch - was not intended to create an inevitable cataclysm in the design world.
“Ferdinand Porsche developed a black watch because he questioned the easiest way to tell the time. And that was white indicators on a black dashboard. It was about good design.”

From jackets to shirts, pants and sporting wear; The current product range includes mens- and womenswear – including the engineered range created in collaboration with Adidas.

Pens, watches, luggage, sunglasses and even perfume complete the range.

"Rather buy one item that costs thousands of rands and keeps longer, than buying three items for less that won't last that long..." -Michael Griffin

Being in the store for the first time (at Hyde Park Corner), was an experience! I’ve learned soo much while I was there.. browsing, touching and experiencing the Porsche Design feel!

I see Porsche Design deffenitly in a different way... but in a good way!!!

Porsche Design is for everyone!!

So if you ask my opinion...
Porsche Design stays ICONIC!!

José de Canha COUTURE

His avant-garde approach never loses his design touch of class or eloquently serene elegance and today top designer José da Canha finds himself nestled in the Northwest province dressing beauties from 2011's Mrs. South Africa for their cocktail wear to fairest matric ladies and brides.

Designer José graduated from the fashion academy NWSD as he was announced the "Top Designer" for this institution in 2003. This prestige's award came shortly after he was awarded the "Best Team Award" in 2002. Since then, José, each year on end, set his personal design bar on new heights with his continuous evolvement in design couture.

Having worked with reputable designers in the industry such as Michael Bezuidenhout, José dressed and worked in collaboration with designers for events such as Miss South Africa and he was fortunate enough to dress personalities such as Zuraida Jardine and Amor Vittone before he traded his love for Parys for the Northwest Province.

He continued his success in the industry with the "Best Matric Dress Parys" in 2007.

April 2010 ear-marked success in the fashion design industry when José da Canha went solo as an independent designer within only four years of his career as a creative designer.

He was selected as the an official designer for

Miss Klerksdorp in 2010 and 2011 and simultaneously embarked on his

next major community project for the North West Community known

as "Matric Cinderella", a project which is very dear to a passionate

individual, José.

José also stepped up to the design request plate together with the models of
the Pageant Academy and Queen of the Universe, Zee Dyson, with a request
by Edith Venter that model's, dressed by José, modeled with Labrador
puppies in order to raise money at the Colour Burst Ball in aid of the
Guide Dog Association held at Monti Casino in September 2010.

José's passion for design and his clients and his ongoing involvement
in all of the above mentioned as well his participation so many new
projects combined with constant revolutionary designs and trend setting will
continue to position José da Cahna as one of the top designers in South Africa.
